Scout Active Support (SAS)

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF HELPING IN SCOUTING?

Are you are interested in scouting and ever thought about volunteering but don’t feel you have the time to commit on a regular basis?..

Well, you don’t have to! 1st Wing Scouts are introducing a Scout Active Support Unit

WHAT IS SCOUT ACTIVE SUPPORT?

The Scout Active Support Unit is formed from a team of willing volunteers who ‘as it says on the tin’ provide active support to the Scout Group and uniformed sections on an ad-hoc and as required basis

WHAT DOES THE UNIT DO?

Pretty much anything that the group or sections need help with. This could be..

  • Provide leader absence cover
  • Extra leader cover where needed on an evening/activity
  • Attend a couple of weeks to teach a certain skill / instruct badge
  • Help loading/unloading/moving trailer at camp, help set up and break camp
  • Driving the minibus
  • Provide catering at camp
  • Provide refreshments at AGM

And so much more!!!!

WHAT DO WE ASK OF YOU?

To be flexible and willing to help as, where and when you can.. That’s it !!!

DO I HAVE TO WEAR UNIFORM?

NO... The Unit has uniformed members and if you wish to you can, but our regular members will only be asked to wear the identifying polo shirt and scarf

DO I HAVE TO DO TRAINING?

We will ask all members complete the Scout training module 1 which takes about 30 minutes online, safety and safeguarding training which again can be completed online in a short time.

If you wish there is plenty of other training opportunities available

BUT I DONT HAVE ANY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE?

Yes you do!! We all have different skills and attributes we can bring to a team and offer to scouting

OK, IM INTERESTED.. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

If you wish to find out more you can contact the unit manager
